York has always been a magnet for artists and many painters and engravers recorded aspects of the city in works of art during the eighteenth century. Here we present a selection of these images of Georgian York brought together from galleries and collections all over the world. In each case the work is reproduced here in accordance with the terms and conditions of the institution which possesses the original. (Under development, many more images to come!)
COMING SOON: Many men and women of note had connections with York in the eighteenth century: living here, working here, contributing to the city's life, or in some other way playing their part in the story of Georgian York. In this section we present brief biographies of some of these notable individuals.
