York Georgian Society submitted a general comment for an application concerning an unlisted Georgian building within the Poppleton Conservation Area.
The proposal included the removal of two defunct chimney stacks, the addition of a side porch with a new entrance door, installation of a roof light, replacement of windows, and re-finishing the driveway in a different material.
York Georgian Society advised that the chimney removal and replacement of windows would be likely to have a significant impact on the character of the conservation area, as windows and chimneys are prominent, defining character features. The Society suggested that the chimneys should be retained, if they are unused and causing no issue, whilst further details regarding the windows should be sought, including the condition of any original windows (if existing) and the design and colour scheme for the new windows.
